West Ham United enjoyed a winning return to London Stadium on Monday, beating newly-promoted Huddersfield Town 2-0 under the floodlights.
Second half goals from Pedro Obiang and Andre Ayew ensured the Hammers chalked up their first win of the premier league season, in their first fixture back on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The second half goals followed a fairly dominant first period for the home side, nullifying a Huddersfield Town side high in confidence thanks to a strong start to the season.Â
Javier Hernandez hit the bar on his home debut - while a returning Andy Carroll won more than his fair share of aerial battles in the opening exchanges.
Michail Antonio impressed on the flank too, demonstrating his pace at will and providing much of the impetus for West Ham’s attacking play.
Andre Ayew replaced Hernandez midway through the second half, and the change paid dividends for the Hammers. First, he fed Pedro Obiang, and his effort from distance took a sizeable deflection and looped beyond Jonas Lossl.
Ayew then added a goal to his assist, slotted home five minutes later to double West Ham’s lead.
