Relive Last Season: September

With West Ham United’s return home moving ever closer, we’re looking back month by month through the Hammers’ first season at London Stadium.

After showcasing their first month, attention now turns to September, and a pair of Premier League fixtures sandwiched with the visit of Accrington Stanley to London Stadium in the league cup.

The month began with the visit of Watford to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park venue, in what became a six-goal thriller.

Michail Antonio continued his goalscoring form to hand the Hammers a two-goal lead inside 35 minutes, before Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney brought the hornets level before half time.

Second half efforts from Jose Holebas and Etienne Capoue saw Watford leave London Stadium victorious.

Dimitri Payet was the star in the third round of the EFL cup, his free kick seeing West Ham past Accrdington Stanley on Wednesday 21 September.

The Hammers found the visitors hard to break down for much of the contest, as Alvaro Arbeloa ad Edimilson Fernandes made their debuts for the club.

As the match looked to be heading to extra time, Payet struck gold, and the back of the net, in the 96th minute.

Southampton then shocked Slaven Bilic’s men at the end of the month, the visitors picking up their fourth consecutive victory in all competition, and proved their status as the form side at London Stadium.
