PREVIEW // HAMMERS TO WELCOME EVRA TO THE FOLD FOR HORNETS VISIT?

West Ham welcome not just Watford to London Stadium this Saturday.

Following the signings of Joao Mario and Jordan Hugill, seven-time league winner and Champions League winner Patrice Evra is now in Claret and Blue, and could face the Hornets in the Premier League this weekend.

The Frenchman signs on a short-term deal and is eager to show he can still cut it in the Premier League having spent eight years at Manchester United, as well as spells with Juventus and Marseille.

“I’m excited, a lot of people talk about the past but the most important thing is the present, now is a new challenge,” said Evra.

“I’m proud and would like to thank the fans, it’s easy to say now but the hardest part is to give 100 per cent on the pitch.

“I respect the people here and it’s very important to give my best to the club.”

With Arthur Masuaku suspended, Evra bolsters the defensive ranks for David Moyes’ side ahead of a crucial encounter against Watford. A free agent for the past three months, Evra has gained social media notoriety with his attempts to maintain fitness, and he could be in contention for competitive action this weekend.

“I won’t lie, if I don’t feel good I’ll tell the manager but today was a very good day,” he said.

“At the moment I’m in good shape, so let’s keep working hard.”

The eccentric veteran is renowned for his presence on social media as well as the football pitch, with his motivational Instagram videos and it’s clear he still ‘Loves this Game’.

“This is my motto, I’m a very positive person, I love to be happy, smiling and laughing,” said the new signing.

“The Patrice on social media is Patrice, but Patrice Evra is the one working hard.

“This is my adrenalin, this is really important for me so now I just want to challenge myself.”

Joining the likes of Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta and Chicarito, he adds vital experience to the squad and Evra believes he can bring his own winning mentality to the dressing room.

“I will bring my winning mentality to every game, in everything, training and the gym, you have to have that winning mentality,” he said.

“When you win one game, you must always think of the next one, for me winning is something normal.

“Enough talking now, now I want to go onto the pitch and show people how happy I am.”

He is in contention for a debut this weekend as Watford visit London Stadium for this Premier League game.
