David Moyes questioned whether any Premier League defenders could deal with Andy Carroll’s aerial threat, after the striker scored two goals in West Ham’s comeback win against West Bromwich Albion at London Stadium.Â
The Baggies went ahead through a James McClean deflected effort which looped into the net, before Carroll equalised in the 59th minute and grabbed a last gasp winner in the 94th minute to launch the Stadium into raptures.
His first, a trademark Carroll header, the big striker rose between Jonny Evans and Kieran Gibbs to head the ball into the bottom corner, before winning the match with a precise finish from a narrow angle.
"They were top goals,†said Moyes.Â
"I don't know if there are many centre-halves that could have dealt with his leap for the first goal, and I must say the ball in is terrific.
"And you have to give him great credit for the finish for the second goal.â€Â
The winner came deep into stoppage team as the influential Marko Arnautovic, fired the ball across the six-yard-box with Carroll managing to sneak the ball into the goal from a tight angle, as the West Ham fans inside London Stadium jubilantly celebrated.Â
The Hammers moved five points clear of West Brom, and ended a run of four games without a win in all competitions for Moyes’ men.Â
"You can see how important it was, it was vital three points,†said the West Ham manager.
"We've come close, we were unlucky against Newcastle a few weeks ago and obviously felt we should have won the game at Bournemouth and we didn't, so to do it today was maybe just.
"We want to be out of the bottom three. Psychologically you don't want to be in it at all, I was disappointed when we did slip back into it, but tonight we got a result and we've got to try and move on.â€
