Saracens play host to Harlequins at London Stadium this weekend, in what will be a momentous occasion for both teams involved, as it is the first AVIVA Premiership game to be played at the venue.Â
This weekend will be special for everyone involved; the players, coaches, spectators and London Stadium itself, but none more so than Saracens’ Jackson Wray.Â
Wray, who plays back row for the Sarries, has been with the club since a young teenager, developing from a promising youngster to a top class Premiership player.Â
The 27-year-old has been a West Ham fan since a child and being able to play at the Hammers’ home is an opportunity he is relishing and hopes the atmosphere can emulate that of the Hammers’ home fans.Â
“It’s good to be able to play there and I’m really looking forward to it,†said Wray.
“I’ve been there a few times to watch the football and it’s a great stadium.
“I’ve seen the stadium at it’s best. When we (West Ham) played Leicester in October the crowd were unbelievable, and the atmosphere was phenomenal.
“I’ve seen it at its loudest and it really does generate a noise. I hope we get that kind of noise this weekend and hopefully we can go there and celebrate a win in the home changing room for once!â€
Wray is hoping the team can use London Stadium as an inspiration to drive the squad on to be successful, after the Quins, Sarries take on Leinster in the Champions Cup quarter-final.Â
“This is a great starting point for the next 10 to 12 weeks,†he added.
“It’s been an up and down year but we’re in the quarter-finals of Europe and in a reasonably good place in the Premiership so this is a good opportunity to kick on, springboard ourselves to where we want to be and we know it’s the time of year you need to be flying.
“We’re really looking to make the most of the next couple of weeks and playing in these big stadiums against big teams is as much motivation as we need really.â€
