London Stadium’s tours play host to another West Ham United legend as they welcome back Former Hammer Alan Taylor on Sunday 2 December.
Taylor, a striker by trade, represented many clubs in his fifteen-year-long career, including Rochdale, Norwich City, Cambridge United, Hull City, Burnley, and Bury, but he is remembered best for his time at West Ham United.Â
He joined the Hammers in 1974, joining from Rochdale for £40,000. The Hinckley born striker would go on to spend 5 seasons at West Ham, scoring 36 goals in 112 games. Taylor achieved iconic status as a West Ham United player when he scored both goals in a 2-0 FA cup final victory over Fulham. He also scored two goals in both the quarter and semi-final to further add to his talismanic status, dominating the FA cup that year.Â
During the 1976 season Taylor finished as the top scorer for West Ham with 17 goals in 50 appearances. Taylor ended his time with the Hammers in 1979, moving to Norwich City where he would go onto play 24 games and score 5 goals.Â
Taylor’s career would take him around the globe to Canada where he represented the Vancouver Whitecaps before coming back to England to finish his career with Norwich City.Â
It took eleven years before another player would score a brace in an FA cup final, Ian Rush in 1986, so it is easy to see why Alan Taylor is adored by the West Ham faithful.Â
An enduring career with a magnificent pinnacle, the FA cup victory in 1974/75. West Ham would go on to repeat their FA cup success in five years later beating Arsenal in the final courtesy of a Trevor Brooking goal.Â
Visitors for Taylor’s legends tour can expect to hear tales of his career, and add a unique perspective to our behind the scenes tours of London Stadium.
