London Stadium will play host to Europe’s biggest chicken wing show-down in September, with the annual Wing Fest weekend taking residence on the Stadium island on 7 & 8 September.
The weekend aims to provide the answer to that burning question - who really does the best wings?
On the 7th & 8th September at London Stadium, in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, competitors from across the UK will work their culinary magic in a bid to be crowned the King or Queen of the Wing.
Wing Fest will see 35 contestants battle it out in two fiercely contested categories in a bid to persuade wing lovers of their merit:
Â
Best Buffalo Wing
Described in the North American dictionary, from where this mighty morsel hales, as "Deep-fried wings coated in a spicy sauce." Of course to those in the know, this description simply doesn’t do this wonderful creation justice and the search for the best out there is fiercely contested across the world.
Â
Best Wild Wing
This category is looking to explore and demonstrate the many exciting ways a chicken wing can be prepared and served in the broadest sense possible. In this category anything goes. Any flavour, any technique, any taste. Basically the rule is, there are no rules.
The culinary warriors battling it out in 2019 are a mixture of street food vendors, pop up legends, and restaurants from all over the UK.
All wings are £1 and will be sold in individual joints (drums or flats) to allow voters to try as many wings as possible from each of the contestants. Ticket holders vote for their favourite wing using the Wing Fest app. Please remember to download the app when the new update becomes available in August.
For the greediest of wing eaters among you, the incredibly popular Frank’s RedHot Wing Eating Competition will again be taking place on both event days.Â
Dr Sweetsmoke’s deadly Lava Wing Challenge, which causes carnage every year, will also be held on both event days this year.
Information on how to sign up to the eating challenges will be sent via email to ticket holders as well as being posted on info points around the event. This year we are introducing new strict rules to make it even more of a challenge!Â
We'll have charismatic BBQ chefs ruling the roost on the Chicken Shed stage in association with Southern Comfort and Buffalo Trace. Here you can expect tantalising cooking demonstrations, BBQ tips, fun shows and DJs later in the day!
Returning for 2019 will be fairground attractions, roaming musicians, chainsaw carving and new for this year, axe throwing!!!
There will be live blues and rock music, bourbon master classes and street entertainment through out both event days, as well as DJs playing summer party vibe tunes into the night.
