With less than 50 days to go until the London Athletics Meet (Saturday 20 July), and in a first for the biggest one-day athletics event in the world, British Athletics has been granted a license extension to the seating capacity for the iconic London Stadium.
Due to incredible demand for tickets and with more than 90% of tickets already sold for the initial 50,000 capacity, the extended license will enable up to 60,000 fans to pack into the London 2012 venue to give GB & NI athletes a world class send-off towards the Paris Olympic Games.
With the GB team for the Games set to be announced on 5 July, many of the British athletes going for gold this summer will use London as the perfect springboard into their Olympic Campaigns, with the opening ceremony taking place just six days later.
The Meet which incorporates the London stage of the Wanda Diamond League has already announced an array of world class stars for the event with GB’s very own Keely Hodgkinson confirmed alongside Dutch 400m hurdles world champion Femke Bol and the reigning world 100m and 200m champion Noah Lyles.
With more names to be announced in the coming weeks, the Meet is turning into the hottest ticket in town. The extension will also see a further release of the ‘Ticket+’ tickets that guarantee some of the best views in the house as well as a complimentary drink and lounge access throughout the event.
The extension also increases availability for the luxurious ‘Great Briton Lounge’ which will host an historic array of legendary athletics memorabilia as part of the exciting new ‘Athletics Icons Exhibit’. Attendees opting for the premium package will also be treated to an exclusive Q&A session with some of the event’s biggest names, making it a day to remember for any athletics fan.
